Uttarayan is a film depicting the effects of the second world war on a man’s life and in family. Pranbir (Uttam kumar) is a soldier who wants to fight for his mother. Aarti is an innocent educated girl who falls in love with Prabir . Prabir too has feelings for the girl. But Prabir misunderstands Aarati’s feelings towards him and he thinks that she is in love with his friend Arun (Anil Chatterjee). Thus he returns to the warfields trying to forget Aarti. In this camp, he meets Rateshwar Bhattacharya whose looks completely matches with him…
