In 1882, at the age of 14, Theodor Hierneis entered the court of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, where he first completed his apprenticeship as a kitchen boy and then became a court cook from 1884 to 1886. Much later, in 1936, when he had become the owner of a a delicatessen, he began to write his memories from his time at Ludwig’s court.
