Christopher Emmanuel Balestrero – Manny to his friends – is a string bassist, a devoted husband and father, and a practicing Catholic. His $85 per week gig playing at the jazz combo in the Stork Club is hardly enough to make ends meet. The Balestreros’ lifestyles will end up a bit more difficult with the significant dental bills his spouse Rose will be incurring. Therefore, Manny decides to see whether he can borrow from Rose’s life insurance plan. However, if he enters the insurer, he’s identified by a number of those clerks as the guy that held the office two times a couple of months earlier. Manny cooperates with the authorities as he has nothing to conceal. Manny learns he is a defendant in not just those hold ups, but a set of additional hold ups at the exact same Jackson Heights area in New York City where they reside. The further that Manny cooperates, the more guilty he looks to the authorities. With the support of Frank O’Connor, the lawyer they employ, they attempt to establish Manny’s innocence.
