British filmmaker Carol Reed and American playwright Garson Kanin team up to direct the war documentary The True Glory. The film was constructed from real footage of this WWII allied invasion of Europe, captured by tens of thousands of camera operators. Beginning with D-Day, the documentary covers the significant battles all of the way into the autumn of Berlin, together with personal vignettes. The prologue is read by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, together with Robert Harris and Peter Ustinov supplying narration. The Real Glory won an Academy award for Best Documentary in 1945.
