This South Seas adventure yarn stars Fay Wray and Richard Arlen, both of whom seem to struggle a little with the new sound technology. The film is directed by George Abbott who makes some very strange decisions when it come to camera angles and the type of shot used – the zooming in on a man’s backside in the opening minutes of the film being the most obvious. The story itself, about a hunt for pearls, seems almost superfluous and seems to be an excuse for the various set-pieces, as well as for Fay Wray to look pretty and for Richard Arlen to take his shirt off with great regularity.
