Gassman plays Mario Ravicchio, a financially-strapped press representative who follows an Italian manufacturing company on its visit to Buenos Aires to present a movie in a festival. He spends a lot of his time, even when not seducing girls, attempting to find some cash, whether by gaming or trying to finagle funds from the expatriate Marucchelli (Amedeo Nazzari), currently a wealthy industrialist at Argentina. He receives friendship, fine words, but no cash.
