Sprawling epic which follows the Prescotts, an emigrant family through four generations, from the Erie Canal in the 1830’s to their settled home in the West a half a century later. On the way they encounter river pirates, and escape with the help of fur trapper Linus Rawlings, who subsequently marries one of their daughters, Eve. The parents are drowned on a foundering raft, and the other daughter Lilith becomes a riverboat singer and catches the eye of a genteel adventurer Cleve Van Valen. They cross the plains together in a wagon train and make and lose a fortune in California; meanwhile Linus has turned farmer and, comes the Civil War, joins the Union Army and is killed at the Battle of Shiloh. Although the scheme is a success, the man charged with piloting the shuttle to the space station, Beaulieu, refuses to take part in what he considers to be a cynical marketing ploy. He changes his mind when he learns that Soizic, the woman he worships, has been assigned to the mission. The two winners are announced. They are Stéphane Cardoux, a failed actor whose wife has just left him, and Alexandre Yonis, whose keenness and preparedness for the mission soon appear suspicious. Beaulieu ultimately recognises Yonis as one of his former colleagues who has a deadly grudge against him – but too late. Decapitation of an Evil Woman (1977)
An unusual blending of elements comes together in this crime story drawn from Japanese history. During the early Meiji period a number of “Dokufu” (Poison Women) committed a significant number of murders. These crimes were most often committed by wives on their husbands in order to be together with their lovers. At that time women were executed in the same manner as men, to wit: by being decapitated. This is the story of the most notorious of all, Takahashi Oden who, in 1879, was the last woman executed by decapitation in Japan.

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976) Nicolas Roeg, David Bowie, Rip Torn, Candy Clark, Sci-fi, Drama

The Man Who Fell to Earth (1976)
The Man Who Fell to Earth is a daring exploration of science fiction as an art form. The story of an alien on an elaborate rescue mission provides the launching pad for Nicolas Roeg’s visual tour de force, a formally adventurous examination of alienation in contemporary life. Rock legend David Bowie, in his acting debut, completely embodies the title role, while Candy Clark, Buck Henry, and Rip Torn turn in pitch-perfect supporting performances. The film’s hallucinatory vision was obscured in the American theatrical release, which deleted nearly twenty minutes of crucial scenes and details.
