One of the gems of the czechoslovak new wave. Impressionism on a film screen inspired by Maupassant’s Mouchette. The film reminds works of Luis Bunuel in depicting of a lifestyle of boheme culture as if it was wholly normal way of living and thus gives us an impression of an enjoyable moral disturbance. The film has added to Maupassant’s story also the other side of the life in fun – life in a city, life in a poverty. The images which are shown here are very similar to the works of impressionists of this time – Monet’s horizontal compositions with a river, grass banks and summer sky, figural motives as are in works of Edgar Degas and acts of August Renoir.
