Gold bars are discovered while dredging a canal in post WWII Berlin, which the Air Force is transporting in trips to London. One of the soldiers (Widmark) who has access to the gold has fallen in love with a German woman running an amateur orphanage . She wants to relocate with the kids to Brazil (where all good Nazi go). She’s been selling herself to raise the funds, but Widmark jealously intercedes and ruins her setup. He quickly decides to steal the gold to finance the trip.
