O Costa do Castelo (1943)
This is a most entertaining movie that is made better by the outstanding performance of Antonio Silva. For Portuguese speakers living outside of Portugal this is a great example of how the language of Camões should be spoken. The comedic plot is above average and the performance delivered by the entire cast is also above average. It is the machinations that are dreamed up by Silva’s character that really puts it over the top. It is about a young nobleman that falls in love with a simple young lady in 1940’s Lisbon and in order to get close to her he passes himself off as a simple chauffeur for a wealthy count. When his “stuck up” aunt finds out about it she would have nothing of it. Enter Silva’s character to give us a happy ending. This is Antonio Silva at his best.
