It’s the spring 1945 along with the front is becoming closer to the tiny Moravian village of Nesovice. Twelve-year older Oldrich Vareka, nicknamed Shorty because of his small stature, observes the events about him recalls his memories and finds comfort in his dream. Though he’s an only son, his father treats him harshly and brutally punishes his every trifle. Perhaps he wrecks his vengeance on him to get his own unsuccessful attempt to vie with the wealthiest farmers from the village. The boys out of the rich farms poke fun at Shorty and he also takes his revenge in petty malice.
