Fong’s third feature charts the ups and downs of a young, working-class couple in and out of work in Hong Kong and on the road across the United States to visit relatives. In the process, Fong inserts himself into the narrative, turning the fabric of fiction he has woven inside out to reveal the different strands of reality that make up contemporary Hong Kong, and to uncover a reflective portrait of himself.Indulgent and rigorous, this is the work of a director whose films are closely identified with his life and his generation.
