Acclaimed French director Jacques Rivette’s version of Emily Bronte’s classic novel. In condensing the novel for the screen, Rivette only uses the first half of the book and the setting has been changed to rural France in the 1930s. The vengeful Heathcliff is now the vengeful Roch (Lucas Belvaux), and Cathy is the more Francophone Catherine (Fabienne Babe).
