Hangman's House (1928)
‘Citizen’ Hogan is a Irish Republican patriot having a price on his mind, serving in Algiers, in which he’s highly respected by his own Australian Legionaire comrades. After getting a telegram, he requests permission to return to Ireland to settle an issue between family honour by killing D’Arcy, a fortune-hunting opportunist that has turned British informer. Back in Ireland Lord Justice O’Brien, who gets the unenviable reputation of being a hanging judge and can be haunted with self-doubt, is terminally ill and near death. He attempts to make sure his daughter Connaught’s long term welfare by requesting her to renounce her love for its upstanding but bad Dermot McDermot and wed the despicably unscrupulous but wealthy D’Arcy, the guy Hogan has returned into murder.
