The film is set in a Tango Salon doubling as a brothel and illegal gambling den, which is filled with with a motley bunch of dissolute irregulars and overseen by an Italian with a mysterious past (Volonté). The usual order is upset when a new pianist arrives, the enigmatic Funes, a woman who stirs up passions among many of the bar’s inhabitants, both male and female.
