It’s peak season at the Hurumhei Mountain Hotel, a ski resort, in Norway, with no rooms to be had without a reservation. It is one of the smaller properties within Hotellkoncernet Ltd.’s large chain of hotels, owned by Mr. Granberg, who also acts as Hurumhei’s remote General Manager, while overly officious Poppe, who Granberg has never met, is the senior on-site staff person in the position of head desk clerk. Already stressed due to it being the busy season and being currently understaffed, Poppe may regret this job with two other misunderstandings soon to come his way. First, Granberg has allowed his daughter, Ruth Granberg, to go to the Hurumhei to check out Poppe’s unauthorized purchase of a snowmobile to transport skiers up the hill.
