In Caro papá, Dino Risi is telling the narrative of this wholesome lifestyle, and dysfunctional family, of a wealthy businessman (played to perfection by Risi’s favourite top man, Vittorio Gassman). Risi paints his portrait from a background of an Italy in which the new permissiveness has run rampant, conventional socio-cultural values are usurped by consumerism, and the roads have turned into an open battleground for politically extremist groups.
