Based on Johann Strauss’s operetta Die Fledermaus, the actions of ‘The Merry Jail’ occur over the course of a single eventful day and night. These actions concern the inter-twined scenarios of three central protagonists. There is: Alex, the young husband who, having yet to settle down into married life, is still carousing while seeking to leave both his wife and his responsibilities at home, Alice, his young wife, who is seeking to bring her errant husband to heel, and Mizzi, their housemaid, who is out to snare herself a rich husband.
