Nazi soldiers adopt a scorched-earth policy when they retreat from the advancing Russian Army in Northern Norway. They order thousands of peasants to abandon their homes and then set them afire, leaving nothing for the Russians in the wake of their arrival. Forced to move South, a group of Norwegians defy orders and head North to meet the army that will help drive the sadistic Nazis from their homeland.
