Based on a true story, Neapolitan gangster Giuseppe (Peppino) Navarra is credited with feeding the poor and needy during WW2 and in the years that followed. Coming across as a sort of Robin Hood figure, his vast network of associates would steal from the Allied ships and then re-distribute provisions and supplies to those who really needed them. It’s worth noting that Naples and much of Italy was lawless during the end of the war and the Allies were far from keen to re-arm a nation that it had until recently considered their enemy.
