Ba nu tou jiang AKA Eight Women Die a Martyr (1987)
“Eight Women Who Martyred Themselves In The River” is a true-to-life incident, now immortalized in the Peoples Republic of China. In late October 1938 a band of eight women fighters from the “Manchurian Anti-Japanese United Army” fought a desperate rearguard action to cover the retreat of their main guerrilla group near the Wusihun River (a tributary of the Songhua aka Sungari River) against pursuing Japanese troops, in which two of their number were seriously wounded (one blinded). When they ran out of ammunition and the situation became hopeless, the women deliberately drowned themselves in the Wusihun River to avoid capture by the Japanese.
