The Temple of the Wild Geese (1962) Yûzô Kawashima, Ayako Wakao, Masao Mishima, Isao Kimura, Drama, Romance

Kawashima excelled in portraying latent psychological anxieties and their incursion to associations. We see two young individuals, each mistreated with a tradition-bound society at another manner, each seething inside. Ayako Wakao’s Satoko is a mistress by commerce, or destiny: whenever her master, the silkscreen performer of this Kohoan Temple in Kyoto, expires, she’s provided to the temple lascivious head priest Kikuchi. She’s attracted to a depression young acolyte, Jinen, that has noticed that the profligacy of his cruel master and Satoko’s absolute dependence on the guy. Jinen is equally intrigued and disturbed by Satoko’s fascination with himhe is likewise captured between loathing of Kikuchi and of those dark conditions of his arrival and his own moral weakness. The narrative unfolds at a dreamlike fashion, a flashback motivated by a now-infamous picture on a silkscreen at the souvenir store in the so-called Temple of the Wild Geese.
