The adopted son of an Osaka courier falls in love with a prostitute and, finding that she’s going to be bought by a customer, steals money from his employer to redeem her. Hunted offenders, both young fans take flight into Yamato, however, as in Chikamatsu’s other national tragedies of love and responsibility (called sewamono), they need to be pursued and their fire ruined by death.
