The Flower, the Storm, and the Gang AKA Hana to arashi to gyangu (1961) Teruo Ishii, Ken Takakura, Kôji Tsuruta, Mamoru Ogawa

This is an important early Toei yakuza film, starring a young Ken Takakura as a wild and wacky hood who gets involved in a bank heist that goes wrong, to wry comic effect. Takakura’s character, cocky and arrogant, if not terribly bright, was a far cry from the stoic tough guys he later portrayed.
