Pierre, a rich man’s son-in-law, shares an illicit night-time kiss with his first wife, Madeleine. The same night sees the murder of Daniel, a two-bit photographer who made some risqué snapshots of Pierre’s sister-in-law, Daphné. Pierre reluctantly gives Daphné a false alibi, but then the police find out that Daniel was Madeleine’s lover. Madeleine, arrested, is in need of an alibi herself, but Pierre is already compromised, and other witnesses don’t back him up.
