Canadian Mounties Corporal Rod Webb and Constable Mike Kelly, along with Rod’s dog Chinook, are sent to the Blackfoot Crossing country to find the killer of trapper Antonie Dubois, and also to investigate reports of illegal deals in beaver pelts. Mike, a rookie, is delighted with the assignment as it takes him to his home country where he again sees Sandra Dubois, his childhood sweetheart.

Old Hui runs a restaurant specializing in roast duck. His secret duck recipe is very tasty, but customers and staff alike have to put up with the filthy shop and Hui’s cost-cutting way of doing business. When ”Danny Fried Chicken” (an American-style fast-food restuarant) opens up across the street, Hui receives a rude shock and is forced to lift his game to compete. He might even have to supply clean chopsticks.

This entry in the series featuring RCMP Rod Webb and his wonder dog, Chinook, has a larger cast than usual, popping in and out of about four different plot lines, which leads Chinook with less to do than usual, which makes it a better than usual entry. Corporal Webb (Kirby Grant) finds a man who seems to have hung himself after writing a suicide note. Webb notes this happened while the suicider was in the midst of cooking himself a meal, and concludes that all is not right in this part of Canada. Chinook agrees with him. Marion Carr, Claudia Drake and Gloria Talbott are on hand as (mighty nice) visual distractions.
