Based on Errol Flynn’s lurid autobiography, this is a TV drama from the 80’s.
The source material is a ribald account of a searcher with unlimited access, famously recounted poolside to a ghost writer over liters of vodka. The candid details include such entertaining lines as “I enter a whorehouse with the same interest I do the British Museum…”
Whereas the book contains plenty of dish – scorn for ex-wives, dalliances with native girls in the tropics and legal troubles stemming from under-aged women, the TV drama is far too tame to be of any interest. It blandly overlooks the book’s content, in favor of creating a trite story full of Hollywood pastiche that bears little resemblance to Flynn’s autobiography. Not to mention, the lead actor looks nothing like Errol Flynn. It’s only a curiosity piece, for those that have read the book and would like to see what TV did with it.
