Penrod and his gang of “junior G-men” want to hide Duke with a friend in a neighboring town, so they send Rodney on a wild goose chase with a messenger pigeon to get him out of the way. Duke is taken by the police before the gang can get him to the train station but escapes, and Rodney is captured by a real life “most wanted” gang for witnessing a payroll robbery. Penrod and his gang meet Danny and realize why Duke was blamed for the dog bite. When they go to the police to explain they learn of Rodney’s predicament. They receive a clue from Rodney via messenger pigeon but are unable to convince the police, so they (including Danny) go to find Rodney themselves. Duke has managed to follow Rodney to the robber’s hideout and gives away their location.

Steel mill foreman Chris Bennett — played by the always dependable Barton MacLane — is well-liked by his men. His rapport with them leads to his promotion to general manager over Tanahill, cousin of Balding, the mill’s owner. Bitter about the loss of the job, Tanahill and his secretary, Vida, plot to keep Chris away from the workers. With Tanahill’s encouragement, Chris spends his time golfing and inspecting his expensive new house. His old friends in the mill feel abandoned. Only Tom Martin is sure that Chris is still on their side. Chris’s wife Bessie is also unhappy about the change in their life. She misses her old friends and begs Chris to return to his former job. When Balding takes a vacation, leaving Chris in charge, things completely fall apart at the mill. The men are angry that they must work overtime for no extra money to repair a mistake that Chris failed to catch. After the job is finished, they ask to go back on regular time, but Tanahill pretends that Chris has ordered the new hours to continue indefinitely. The men walk out, and the situation quickly deteriorates to the point of an impending riot. Chris hears of the situation at a fancy party he’s giving at his brand new house, and rushes to the plant — hopefully in time.
