Based on A.J.Cronin’s ‘Beyond This Place’, this movie narrates the story of an untiring crusade for justice. A young man, learning about his father’s wrongful implication in a fifteen-year-old murder, vows to bring the true criminals to justice and release his innocent father from ‘kaala paani’ (life imprisonment), for which he enlists the help of a press reporter, a retired police inspector and an unwitting prostitute who happens to possess some key evidence.

A newspaper editor, Shrivastav, is killed when he was about to expose the underworld links of a very rich and influential person. C.I.D. Inspector Shekhar is assigned to this case, an investigation of which leads him to suspect Dharamdas and his men. But Dharamdas spins a web of lies and deceit, and Shekhar himself becomes a suspect, and is arrested by the police, and loses his job, leaving Dharamdas and his men to carry on undeterred.

Wealthy Anita and office-worker Neeraj almost elope, but her father interrupts the wedding. Neeraj tries to contact Anita, but finds that she is now engaged to Anil Sharma. From various people he learns different stories about Anita’s past: she had multiple personalities or she was a morally-loose woman. All this goes against the Anita he knew and loved.
