Terry Brogan, an aging football player in L.A., is cut early in the season; he needs money, so he takes a job from a shady friend of his, Jake Wise, to track down Wise’s girlfriend, Jessie, who’s somewhere in Mexico. She’s also the daughter of a very wealthy land developer, who owns Terry’s team. He heads for Cozumel, finds Jessie, and promptly falls in love with her. He thinks it’s mutual, then without warning, she heads back to L.A. and Jake. What’s going on with her, and what’s the connection between Jake’s hold on Jessie and the various politicians, lawyers, and environmentalists who seem to be converging on some sort of land deal? Terry keeps looking for answers.

Set in an Australian lumber town in 1939. Marge (Rachel Ward), the bored wife of kindly-but-dull Sonny (Bryan Brown) begins dreaming of outside romances. She unexpectedly gets her wish in the form of Sonny’s much-younger brother Sugar (Steven Vidler), whom Sonny cheerfully offers to his wife as a surrogate bed-mate. Given this curious arrangement, one wonders why Marge is so upset when she is propositioned by handsome stranger Neville (Sam Neill). Eventually, Gifford sleeps with every other woman in town but Marge. Fed up with the unimaginative lovers in her own house, Marge finally gives in to Gifford, arousing the jealousy not of the cloddish Sonny, but of the immature Sugar.

Tom Sharky is a narcotics cop in Atlanta who is demoted to after a botched bust. At the depths of the humble division, while exploring a high-dollar prostitution ring, Sharky stumbles across a mob murder together with government ties, also reacts by building his downtrodden fellow researchers (Sharky’s”system”) to discover the leaders and bring them to justice before they kill all of his witnesses and partners, such as Sharky himself.

That is how Burt Reynolds explains this movie, which appears to be his finest ever. From the book by William Diehl, the narrative is more complicated since the man’s running for president. This is a really long film that feels like three hours rather than 2. The filming downtown Atlanta and also the Peachtree Plaza resort sets the mood just right for your story. Reynolds does not do much laughing at this one when compared with his humor movies. He is quite serious here, particularly in the start of the film because he has demoted to get a dope bust that goes wrong. At times, however, the film plays more like a voyeuristic play compared to a crime movie with Burt attempting to get near the mobster’s woman. Just towards the end of the movie does the violence get cranked up which contributes to the bang bang orgasm. Al Capps manages the score with magical. This film has grown into among the best crime dramas ever. Test it out.
