Gino and Elvira have been married for 40 years, but lack of money has forced them to part, and each lives with one of their daughters. They suffer from the separation although they often phone each other and secretly meet in hotel rooms. When vacation time comes, Elvira leaves Rome with her daughter and grandchildren.
