Canadian Mounties Corporal Rod Webb and Constable Mike Kelly, along with Rod’s dog Chinook, are sent to the Blackfoot Crossing country to find the killer of trapper Antonie Dubois, and also to investigate reports of illegal deals in beaver pelts. Mike, a rookie, is delighted with the assignment as it takes him to his home country where he again sees Sandra Dubois, his childhood sweetheart. Posing as trappers, Rod and Mike meet Matt Oliver, introduced as a mining engineer, at Sandra’s home, who is a little irked at the warm welcome Mike receives from Sandra. The undercover Mounties soon get on the trail of Morgan, Howell and Cheval, the illegal beaver trappers. While searching for evidence in the trading post ran by MacGregor, Mike is surprised by Morgan and Cheval and is killed. Rod closes the trail that reveals Oliver as the leader of the gang. Chinook takes care of Oliver, and Rod arrests Morgan and the others.

Fort McKenzie prospector Pop Kellogg, just before the arrival of his newly-orphaned grandson Billy, is killed by McBeau and Dawson, who seek the map showing Pop’s secret oil claim. Billy, the now newly-doubled-orphaned grandson, is being escorted to Fort McKenzie by Corporal Rod Webb of the Canadian Mounties and his Wonder Dog, Chinook. Webb turns Billy over to the keeping of Anne DuMere, who runs the trading post for Dan Morgan. After several attempts on his life, Rod and Ann manage to link Morgan and a mineralogist, Kincaid, to the LeBeau/Dawson gang, which is now minus Dawson who has been knocked over a cliff to his death by Chinook.

Canadian Mountie Rod Webb (Kirby Grant) has been assigned to the case where three messengers carrying Kenmore Mine payrolls have been robbed and murdered. He travels to the mine on a train with Jane Kenmore (Gail Davis), niece of the mine owner; payroll messenger Brown (Richard Barron; an armed guard named Le Clerque (John McGuire) ; and a young mining engineer, Len (‘Rand Brooks’)), and his sister Polly (Margaret Field). Someone sneaks chemicals in the stove and, in the confusion, Brown and the conductor are killed and the payroll vanishes. Rod uncovers evidence that Kenmore and his niece, with the help of Le Clerque, have been robbing their own payrolls.

This entry in the series featuring RCMP Rod Webb and his wonder dog, Chinook, has a larger cast than usual, popping in and out of about four different plot lines, which leads Chinook with less to do than usual, which makes it a better than usual entry. Corporal Webb (Kirby Grant) finds a man who seems to have hung himself after writing a suicide note. Webb notes this happened while the suicider was in the midst of cooking himself a meal, and concludes that all is not right in this part of Canada. Chinook agrees with him. Marion Carr, Claudia Drake and Gloria Talbott are on hand as (mighty nice) visual distractions.
