In the 1840’s Mexico has ceded California to the United States, making life nearly impossible for the Mexican population due to the influx of land and gold-crazy Americans. Farmer Joaquin Murrieta revenges the death of his wife against the four Americans who killed her and is branded an outlaw. The reward for his capture is increased as he subsequently kills the men who brutally murder his brother. Joining with bandit Three Fingered Jack, Murrieta raises an army of disaffected Mexicans and goes on a rampage against the Americans, finally forcing his erstwhile friend, Bill Warren, to lead a posse against him.

Racketeer Tony Gazotti is thankful that lawyer Jackson Durant helps him beat a murder rap, but Durant just does it for the thrill of it and refuses payment. Durant’s defense of mobsters causes his firm to disown him and his girlfriend Sue to leave him. But when young Tom Siddell, Sue’s new boyfriend, is framed for a murder, she is the first to come asking for Durant’s help. Durant uses Gazotti’s information network and the help of new girlfriend Gertie Waxted to find that rival gangster Jim Grelliman is involved in the framing of Siddell. When Durant sends Gertie to Grelliman’s apartment in a bid to blow open the case, she is walking on thin ice.
Jim Wyngate, an English aristocrat, comes to the American West under a cloud of suspicion for embezzlement actually committed by his cousin Lord Henry. In Wyoming, Wyngate runs afoul of cattle rustler Cash Hawkins by rescuing the Indian girl Naturich from Hawkins. Wyngate marries Naturich, but then learns that his cousin Lord Henry has been killed and has cleared his name before dying. As Wyngate has long loved Lady Diana, Lord Henry’s wife, he is perplexed at his situation. But fate takes a hand and resolves matters as Wyngate could not have predicted.
