The Shame occurs in a single morning. The morning when Pepe and Lucía, a modern, well-to-do couple in their 30s, have decided to tell Jimena, the social worker, that life with Manu is too hard; that they can’t get used to their adopted 8-year-old Peruvian son; that the six months they’ve been living with him have been hell; and that they want to give him back.
