Two amateur circus kids from a poor Ukrainian village, ten-year-old Barbu and his older sister Mimma, are sold to a circus artist called Caruso who promises them a career in the West. Caruso smuggles them to Berlin and separates them from each other. Mimma is sold to prostitution, while Barbu is taught to snatch purses together with an older Albanian boy Marcel. Barbu finds out about Mimma’s fate and decides to free her from the brothel.
The word “lóve” does not necessarily mean in Slovak what it means in English. It can actually refer to money. Both are also in this romantic drama from Bratislava. The main hero, Ma?o, lives a carefree life with no rules. He and his childhood friend Tomáš steal cars for a car repair shop. Mato’s life changes radically when he meets and falls in love with Veronika. Veronika lives the respectable life of a university student. She grew up in an orphanage and lives in a boardinghouse paid for by her school. She is constantly trying to contact her mother, whom she has never seen. Mato doesn’t tell her the whole truth about himself, and would like to change his life because of her. The first conflicts appear between Mato and Tomáš. Mato wants to break free from his current way of living, so he and Tomáš agree to one last score. They go to rob a gas station, but because of an unfortunate accident, Mato involved in a murder.
Everyone knows about the finality of human existence but the realization of life’s actual limits comes to each of us individually and often unexpectedly. Dedicated home care nurse Vlasta lives for her husband Lada, her daughter and her patients. But then one day things change and Vlasta is forced to reach outside of her comfort zone. Drama and gentle humor intertwine as Vlasta realizes that she might need some care too.
