A mine owner dies and leaves half to Gene and half to easterner Barbara Erwin. Gene wants to continue operation of the mine as requested in the will but Barbara wants to sell and leave with her half of the money.
Gene Autry attempts to arrange that both the Indians and ranchers, scheduled to be driven from their land by Mesa City’s mew aqueduct, benefit from the deal, which is opposed by town banker Mason. Mason stirs up the Indians against Gene but, with help from school teacher Carol, Gene is able to expose Mason’s schemes.
The Army wants the ranchers land and the Borax plant for their maneuvers. Stevenson is dissatisfied with their offer for the plant and has his men blowing up ranches making it look like the work of the Army.
