So Faraway and Blue (2001)
Julie, our narrator and guide, is a young woman whose father left her when she was young and whose mother recently threw her out of the house because she reminded her too much of him. Now living in the bottom of an empty swimming pool, she follows strangers around on her bicycle. On this particular day, the stranger she meets is Hank, a man about her father’s age, who has traveled from Alberta to get closure from Véronique, the woman he deserted on a Mexican beach. As they join forces to search for her, Julie’s attempts to connect with Hank fail as he is lost in his own world and she does not seem have the subtlety to draw him out of it. This burgeoning relationship is interwoven with Véronique, who has returned to Montreal to make a fresh start, and Gus, a friend who has fallen in unrequited love with her, too fast and too deep.
