Signori si nasce (1960)
Early 1900. The knight Pio degli Ulivi (De Filippo) is a respected ecclesiastical tailor, humble and prudent. In contrast, his brother Otto Spinelli degli Ulivi said Zazà (Totò), impoverished Baron, accumulates debts by courting soubrettes.
Cornered by a long due hefty promissory note, Zazà reluctantly decides to ask for help to Pio. His brother first rejects him, then, fearing a reckless act, rushes to Zazà and finds him in the company of the soubrette Patrizia (Scala).
To justify himself the Baron presents her as his own lost and then found daughter, and Pio, struck by the revelation, welcomes both of them at home. Zazà accepts, hoping to tap him for money so as to pay his debt and finance the musical comedy of his protegée, and asks his servant Battista (Croccolo) to back him up by pretending to be the boyfriend of Patrizia. The real boyfriend (Garrone), meanwhile, a hot-blooded brute easy to brawls, is coming out of jail to see his belle…
