This film takes place one summer during the 1960s near a beach in Enoshima located outside of Tokyo. The 12 year old protagonist Nagisa, a naturally convivial child, lives with her mother who runs a Japanese style tavern. Her father was a fisherman but passed away when she was much younger. Nagisa’s dream is to buy a record player, and to attain this dream, she begins to work at her aunt’s beach house. This film portrays the first step toward adulthood of the young girl Nagisa as she fluctuates from happiness to sadness through the various encounters she has.
