The protagonist of the film, set in 1700, is Figaro, the barber of Seville, who risks being arrested for opening his shop on Sundays despite a ban. Figaro is a friend of a young Count who’s in love with Rosina, the governor’s daughter. But her father doesn’t consent to their marriage.
One day Rosina, through her maid Colomba, manages to tell the Count that one night they’ll be staying at the “Four bulls” inn. So the Count, along with Figaro and one of his friends, go to the inn before Rosina’s arrival. Their plan is to take the innkeeper’s place, pretend to be the owners of the inn and abduct Rosina.
But unfortunately not everything goes according to their plans. In fact Pedro, a dangerous bandit, learns that Rosina and her entourage will stay at the inn that night and bursts with his men into the inn. They all dress up as innkeepers and take as prisoners the Count, Figaro and his friend. When she finally comes, Rosina is very disappointed that her beloved is not there.
Figaro, however, has an idea: he writes a note and puts it in the goose that he’s to serve at the table. On the note it says that the man with the white hat is Pedro. Unfortunately, at that time, the white hat is worn by Figaro and not Pedro. The plan fails and the soldiers arrest Figaro, who is then sentenced to death by firing squad. He eventually manages to escape helped by the count.
In the end, the count manages to marry Rosina and, after the wedding, Figaro goes to live with them.
